Fashion Week, New York 09/19
When I was seventeen I had dreams of becoming a fashion photographer. I loved nothing more that pouring over the magazines at my local newsagencey looking as the glossy pages of models on location. Through the years my style of portraiture was definitely influenced by the magazine style of photography. I wanted all my subject to have their cover girl image. This year I was in New York with my photographer boyfriend, during fashion week and we shot 2 Judy Copley dresses with a gorgeous New York model. It was such an adventure. Traveling the subway to the financial district, passing by the memorial park where the twin towers once stood. Entering into the models tiny apartment and meeting her for the first time after many many dm’s through instagram and email. We shot on her apartments roof top (which was on level 4) and literally chased the light. The rooftop was a green oasis amongst the concrete jungle of the city. Then we headed to the edge of the water with the industrial style rig as the background. Then onto a construction site, where we asked one of the labourers to pose in the photo. It is such a thrill to do work like this. You definitely have to open up and become a braver version of yourself. The camera has always helped me to feel that . If I had a camera in my hand, I felt like I deserved to be there.
